Starting in late spring and up until the first frost, visitors can see gardens planted in patterns: quilt patterns, specifically. The official dates for the Quilt Gardens Tour are Memorial Day through October 1, 2010. Each of the gardens along Elkhart County’s Heritage Trail recreates a traditional or contemporary quilt pattern — and it’s a requirement of participation that patterns not be repeated from previous years. There’s no admission charge to view the 16 quilt patterned gardens and 16 quilt art murals in the seven communities along the trail: Bristol, Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury, Nappanee, Shipshewana and Wakarusa.

The Quilt Gardens Tour is produced by the Elkhart County Convention & Visitors Bureau, 800:860-5957.
