massachusetts_boston_bloomsBLOOMS! 2010, the annual exhibition by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, will be held March 24-28, 2010, during the Boston Flower & Garden Show at the Seaport World Trade Center, Boston, Massachusetts. Two floral design competitions will test the imagination and creativity of the region’s top arrangers, an amateur horticulture competition will show what a green thumb can accomplish over the course of a cold New England winter, the Plant Society displays will showcase their members’ skills and knowledge and Ikebana designers will provide a graceful note with their spare, meticulous arrangements.

The theme of the Boston Flower & Garden show for 2010 is “A Feast for the Senses”, featuring more than 30 gardens. There’s a full schedule of lectures and demonstrations, Road Trips Gardeners. Plan your trip to coincide with a presentation you want to see. (On my list is “Editing the Mature Garden”, a lecture by Cathy Felton at 7 p.m. March 27 — she promises to tell how incremental steps can undo years of neglect!) New this year is the Garden of Cakes, offering yet another way to appreciate flowers: as adornment on dramatic and romantic creations by some of the region’s top professional cake artists.
