GardenScape in Rochester
“Alien Nature”, a photography exhibit by artists Rodrigo Pedrolli and Michael Murphree, is a part of GardenScape, a flower show taking place March 11 to the 14, 2010, in the Dome Center (also known as the Monroe County Fair & Expo Center). It’s just outside Rochester, New York, at 2695 East Henrietta Road, Henrietta, New York.
Pedrolli and Murphree describe their works as “a compelling fresh photographic look at flowers and nature ‘manipulated and transformed’ into pieces that are dynamic, exotic and sometimes erotic; a surreal look at everyday common flora.” (That’s their “Alien Cosmos”, at right).
The theme for this year’s show is “Eye of the Garden,” inspired by the photography exhibit and drawn from trompe l’oeil, an art form that involves creating realistic images to effect an optical illusion, causing two-dimensional illustrations to appear three-dimensional. In addition to the garden displays, more than 100 vendors will be on hand, and daily seminars will feature local and national horticultural experts.
GardenScape is a not-for-profit organization. Proceeds from the show help support public and educational projects, including the Epilepsy Foundation, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Ronald McDonald House.
