Galveston’s Moody Gardens
For Road Trips Gardeners, the lure to visit Galveston Island is probably the Rainforest Pyramid at the Moody Gardens, One Hope Boulevard, Galveston, Texas. The 10-story glass pyramid is open for the summer now through September 6, 2010, and features over 1,000 species of tropical plants from Asia, Africa and the Americas.
As a new feature, there will be rainforest “showers” at 1 p.m., 3 p.m and 5 p.m. daily. Rainforest presentations will also take place throughout the day, discussing all aspects of the rainforest from plants, conservation efforts to insects and animals.
On September 7, 2010, the Rainforest Pyramid will close again to complete the $25 million remodeling. The whole project is expected to be completed by next May.
The gardens also include an aquarium, IMAX theater, paddleboat and a museum.
