Summer is definitely the best season to visit the aquatic gardens at Kenilworth Park in Washington, D.C.

In an age-old dance, land, water, and wind combine here for a beautiful display — especially in the early morning. Flowers close when the temperature gets above 89 or 90 degrees, and don’t open again until the next morning!

Check it out July 17 and 18, 2010, during the annual Lotus and Water Lily Festival.

The gardens, entered from Anacostia Avenue, are open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Thanksgiving, December 25 and January 1. (The exact address is 1550 Anacostia Avenue NE, Washington, D.C.) This natural area of Anacostia Park has origins in a 1926 act authorizing parks to preserve forests and natural scenery.
