In an English Country Garden
OK, Road Trips Gardeners, it’s not really an English Country Garden. This time, the “blooms” are a ceramic exhibition celebrating the joys of summer! It’s in the Pot Gallery of the York Art Gallery through September 1, 2010. That’s York as in England.
This garden of ceramic riches displays works inspired by plants, flowers, animals and birds displayed in a space inspired by beauty of a summer garden. Included are pieces by ceramicists Kate Malone and Rosemary Wren as well as Rockingham Pottery and items from the gallery’s studio pottery collection.
Examples of the works include a Whieldonware Cauliflower teapot and sweetcorn jug (1760-80) a Rockingham artichoke ceramic curtail rail end and a watering can teapot, by Wally Keeler.
The ceramic works will be complimented by paintings of gardens from the gallery’s collections.
Admission is free. The York Art Gallery, Exhibition Square, York, England, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week (closed December 25, 26 and January 1).
