December Garden Holidays are set for December 4 through 31, 2010, in the various sections of the Botanic Garden of ABQ BioPark in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

An Evergreen theme offers over 40 large containers full of fragrant fur, pine, cedar and various dried naturals through out the garden. “Old-fashioned” at the Garden’s Heritage Farm references the decorated tree in the farmhouse, the tumbleweed snowman, and wagon rides (on a wagon pulled by a red 1939 tractor).

Miniature winter scenes, snowmen and glistening holiday villages are scattered among the mid-century towns in the Railroad Garden to give this specialty garden a festive flair.

Southwest is an appropriate theme in the Desert Conservatory with grass wreaths, chili peppers, snow lights around cactus and red kalanchoes wrapped in burlap.

Classic red and white poinsettias provide a traditional look in the Mediterranean Conservatory. Hundreds of poinsettias will spill out of tiered containers and hanging baskets.

The Botanic Garden, 2601 Central Avenue NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico, is located at the intersection of Central and New York avenues, just east of the Central Avenue bridge over the Rio Grande River.

The garden is an institutional member of the American Public Gardens Association.
