Florimania at Hampton Court Palace
Wandering London next month, Road Trips Gardeners? Consider a visit to Hampton Court Palace, just outside London, England.
“Florimania – myths and legends” will be held in the palace’s Mary II Apartments April 1 through 3, 2011. This is an annual event of the Surrey arm of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies, and is held on the weekend the Brits call “Mothering Sunday” (like Mother’s Day in the United States). It features displays and demonstrations of flower arranging.
You will see a floral depiction of the ‘Green Man’ in the niches and the goddess of flowers ‘Flora’ in the Public Dining Room. The fireplace in the Queen’s Guard Chamber will be transformed into the ‘Hanging Gardens of Babylon’, while the Presence Chamber will bring to life the famous legend of St. George on horseback trampling the dragon beneath him.
Admission to “Florimania” is included in palace admission tickets (£15.95).
