Herbs Galore & More takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30, 2011, on the Carriage House Lawn of Maymont, 2201 Shields Lake Drive, Richmond, Virginia.

Maymont’s grounds are admission-free, but there’s a $3 entrance fee for the Marketplace, featuring 40 vendors from the mid-Atlantic region offering herbs, annuals, perennials, trees, vegetables plus herbal products and crafts.

In the Marketplace are sessions presenting the top 10 herb tips, worm composting and the history, cultivation and use of the 2011 herb of the year, horseradish. Across from the Marketplace, in the Stone Barn, there’ll be classes on cooking with fresh herbs, seasoning fish with herbs and sustainable homesteading.

Maymont, built in the Gilded Age, was the 100-acre Victorian country estate of James Henry and Sallie May Dooley.
