Painting the Tulip Tree Flower
With its majestic stature and stunning yellow-and-orange blossoms, the tulip poplar has been designated both the signature tree and the 2011 Native Tree of the Year by Adkins Arboretum on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
A two-day workshop is scheduled at the arboretum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both May 18 and 20, 2011, to help participants capture the tulip flower’s unique characteristics in watercolor. Led by artist Lee D’Zmura, the workshop (which assumes some watercolor experience on the part of participants) will focus on the study and creation of botanical illustrations of this stately member of the magnolia family.
Interested, Road Trips Gardeners? Decide quickly, because the workshop is limited to just 10 participants. A materials list will be provided (don’t forget to pack a sack lunch). The fee for the workshop is $140. The arboretum is located at 12610 Eveland Road, Ridgely, Maryland.
