Chrysanthemums in Portland
The annual Chrysanthemum Show is underway at Lan Su Chinese Garden, 239 Northwest Everett Street, Portland, Oregon.
But, do make those travel plans soon, Road Trips Gardeners, because the last day is November 30, 2011.
The chrysanthemum with its curling petals and elegant look has long been a favorite with the Chinese people. As one of the “Four Honorable Plants” (plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo) it is the plant associated with autumn.
Lan Su offers a display of both potted and cut blooms with partners from the Portland Chrysanthemum Society, as well as chrysanthemum tour with the horticulture staff and serves chrysanthemum tea in the Teahouse.
The Chinese Garden has provided a window into Chinese culture, history and way of thinking since its opening on September 14, 2000.
