Quilt Gardens
OK, Road Trips Gardeners, get those cars ready to roll.
The Quilt Gardens along the Heritage Trail in northern Indiana will feature 19 gardens — each in a quilt design — this year — its fifth. You can download the map here.
The large-scale quilt gardens plus 18 outdoor quilt art murals will create a tapestry of color in the communities of Bristol, Elkhart, Goshen, Nappanee, Middlebury, Shipshewana and Wakarusa along the Heritage Trail, a nationally-recognized driving tour route. Gardens and murals are viewable May 30 through October 1, 2012.
In excess of 115,000 locally grown annuals are planted in the 19 gardens that replicate traditional or contemporary quilt patterns. Gardens range in size from 800 to 2,500 square feet and blanket over 23,000 square feet of soil. The 18 outdoor quilt art murals that grace downtown buildings and attractions throughout Elkhart County are also inspired by traditional and contemporary patterns. Murals average 11 feet by 11 feet in size and are hand-painted by local artists.
