Trees: Really Big Plants
Here’s a road trip for two wheels, not four.
The Tour des Trees is a seven-day bicycle trip starting in in Portland, Oregon, on August 5, 2012, and ending there August 11, 2012.
Riders trace a counter-clockwise loop including Oregon’s north coast (Seaside to Pacific City), vineyards, high desert, Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, for a visually spectacular week.
Held each year to benefit the Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund (TREE Fund), the Tour des Trees has raised more than $5 million for scientific research and better methods for propagation, planting and care of urban trees. The Tour also funds education programs connecting young people with the environment and with career opportunities in the green industry.
The 585-mile route offers challenging cycling for those eager to “ride-ride-ride”, with shorter-mileage options available on some of the century (100+ miles) days. Each full-Tour cyclist commits to raising $3500. Join in the ride — or just line the route to cheer on the riders!
