Not only is October the time of year when maples show their best color, it is also the best time of year to plant them.

Making the most of the season are Friends of the Portland Japanese Garden, which will stage its annual Maple Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 27, 2012.

This is a specialty sale where customers can browse the many shapes and sizes available and find the perfect maple for their own yard. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Garden.

It takes place in the Garden House and Upper Parking Circle of the Portland Japanese Garden, 611 SW Kingston Avenue, Portland, Oregon (map).
