england_munchester _rhododendronsRhododendrons are the stars at Muncaster Castle and Gardens, Ravenglass, Cumbria, England (map) from March 15 through June 15, 2013.

These aren’t regimented bedding plants. They cascade down the hillsides and ravines among the 77 acres surrounding the castle. If you want to see them at their peak, Road Trips Gardeners, buy your plane tickets for May.

Other plants you’re likely to spot at this time of year: Flowering camellias, magnolias. native wild daffodils and azaleas.

Another feature of Munchester: it’s home to the World Owl Centre with more than 200 birds. You’ve probably never seen an owl like Chocolate!
