Le Jardin du Monastère des Hospitalières is the last remaining green space from a 150-acre property named Terre-de-la-Providence. This land was ceded in 1730 to the Religious Hospitallers by the Basset brothers, in exchange for a place to live out their lives.

The nuns used it for agriculture and livestock grazing as well as the operation of a quarry and a garden culture. When the Hôtel-Dieu left Old-Montréal, this land became the site of a new monastery and a new hospital and the garden served to feed the Congregation and the sick.
