Open House at Hartman Arboretum
There’s a special reason for Road Trips Gardeners to swing by Southwestern Indiana the last weekend in April.
Hartman Arboretum, 5939 Spirit Trail, Evansville, Indiana, hosts an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29, 2017 (note that the region is in the Central Time Zone). Of course you’ll want to see the flowers in bloom and explore the grounds, but —
Milkweed plants will be given away (while supplies last). As we all know, milkweed is an important nectar plant for many pollinators, and it’s the host plant for Monarch butterflies.
Tours of the Arboretum will be conducted by members of Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association. Professional arborist Shawn Dickerson will demonstrate the proper techniques of tree planting.
Hartman Arboretum is located northwest of Evansville, one half-mile north of State Road 66 (Diamond Avenue) at Highway 65 (Cynthiana Road) near the German Township Booster Club. Follow the gravel road back to the Arboretum.
