Tagging Monarch ButterfliesAs long-time readers of Road Trips for Gardeners already know, your editor considers butterflies as “flowers with wings”.

So, here’s another Butterfly Festival to check out these frequent garden visitors. The Kansas Wetlands Education Center, 592 NE Kansas 156 Highway, Great Bend, Kansas, will celebrate all things butterfly from 9 a.m. to noon September 16, 2017.

This annual festival offers participants lots of fun learning opportunities from making milkweed seed bombs to checking out an insect zoo.

Nets and tags will be available for those who want to capture and tag monarch butterflies (that’s a tagged monarch in the photo, above, left). Participants will receive information about the tagging process before heading out with a tagging leader to search for Monarch butterflies.
