Flower of the Day: Flamingo Flower

IMG_6740aThe color’s the same as the flamingo, so it’s somewhat logical that this anthurium is called Flamingo Flower.

Our intrepid photographer shot ’em in the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens in Rockford, Illinois, earlier this month.

Its full name is Anthurium x ferrierense, which Hortipedia notes is a species in the genus Anthurium which contains approximately 871 to 1203 species and belongs to the family of the Araceae (Arum Family). The type species of the genus is Anthurium acaule. It’s a perennial that produces solitary salmon-red spathae.
