Garden To-Do List
Here’s a handy garden to-do list, courtesy of Better Homes & Gardens (you’ll find it on page 111 of the June issue).
*As the temperatures rise, replace cool-season salad crops like lettuce, spinach and swiss chard – which become bitter tasting and unattractive – with warm-season vegetables and herbs such as beans, summer squash and basil.
*Barricade your berries to keep fruit-loving birds from stealing the harvest by using netting or synthetic fabric row covers.
*For a gorgeous green update, plant palms and aquatic plants, like lilies and lotus, which love warm and rainy June weather.
*Give your houseplants a much-needed vacation from climate-controlled by placing them in a shady spot protected from high winds.
