Summer Flower Show
Road Trips Gardeners driving through Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this summer should schedule a stop at the Summer Flower Show in the Phipps Conservatory, One Schenley Park — especially if they have children in the car.
That’s because this year’s show includes small-scale trains winding around summer blooms throughout the glasshouse with a variety of railroad displays enhanced by flowers, plants and interactive features,
Always a seasonal highlight at Phipps, Garden Railroad’s model trains chug through living landscapes sprinkled with groundcover, sedums and other low-growing plants, passing through cities, towns and farmlands dotted with hand-crafted models and figurines and through displays of topiaries and tropical plants.
The Summer Flower Show, designed by Phipps staff Jordyn Melino, Laura Schoch and Curt Pesanka, runs through October 5, 2014. Hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily and until 10 p.m. on Fridays.
