Blossoms at Butterworth spotlights the gardens surrounding two houses built by the John Deere family from noon to 5 p.m. June 28, 2015. Entrance to the Butterworth Center is 1105 Eighth Street, and the Deere-Wiman House is 817 Elevent Avenue, both in Moline, Illinois. Admission is free to Blossoms at Butterworth, but donations are accepted.

The gardens at both houses are well-landscaped and have some unusual plants amidst the more common varieties. Both families enjoyed the flowers and trees not commonly found in the Midwest. On the grounds you will find a tricolor beech, cucumber magnolia and a bald cypress.

Of course there’ll be more, including living history volunteers, old-fashioned music, games of the 1800s, jugglers, an antique auto show and refreshments.

Tours of the homes are available and children can make crafts at WQPT’s children’s tent. Food vendors will be selling grilled pork chop and chicken sandwiches, smoothies, ice cream, beverages, and more. Nearby, visitors can learn more about the area’s history at the Rock Island County Historical Society, open from 1 to 4 p.m. that afternoon.
