Flower of the Day: Physalis Alkekengi

denmark_copenhagen_physalisSeen in the Botanical Garden shop in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Physalis alkekengi is a plant with burnt orange papery blooms also known as the Chinese lantern.

It’s related to the Physalis peruviana (whose fruit inside that papery calyx is edible), the tomatillo and more distant relatives including tomato, eggplant, potato and other nightshades.
