“Planting in a Post Wild World” is the topic for a presentation from 10 a.m. ’til noon October 30, 2015, in the Gillespie room of Wister Center, Scott Arboretum, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Landscape design today fails to take into account the ecological and functional aspects of the plant selections, according to the sponsors. This has negative consequences on our health as well as the health of this planet. What and how we plant matters more than ever before – our plantings have to do more than just look pretty.

Claudia West will discuss how planting can help solve current ecological and environmental problems by exploring a lush planting style that moves beyond the tired native plant debate and shows how to successfully incorporate ecological species in an environment that mimics nature but thrives within our built world.

Ms. West is a landscape designer, lecturer, and consultant. In her current role as ecological sales manager at North Creek Nurseries, she bridges the gap between project designers, plant growers, installation and management professionals, and ecology. There will be time for questions and Claudia’s new book Planting in a Post Wild World (co-authored with Thomas Rainer) will be available for purchase.
