Harrowgate Flower Show in England
The Autumn Flower Show takes place September 14, 15 and 16, 2018, at North of England Horticultural Society, Regional Agricultural Centre, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England.
This year’s theme is “Plants of Pleasure”, a journey across thousands of years of guilty plant enjoyment. From cocoa beans and grape vines, to love potions and perfumed oils we explore the origins of those plants often considered to be “naughty, but nice”. How did the bitter taste of coffee become so popular? And could you really make someone fall in love with a perfume?
A display based on the theme of love potions is being created especially for the show by the network of artisan flower farmers and florists known as Flowers from the Farm.
Explore how today’s homeopathic and flower essence practitioners work to help find solutions for everything from sadness to feeling stuck in a rut. Jenny Howarth, from Yorkshire Flower Essences, will be giving a talk about her work in developing a new Scintilla Autumn mister, which combines flower essences and essential oils to reflect the warmth of the Autumn season with a sense of abundance and completion.
Harewood florists Leafy Couture is creating a display based on the theme of wine and vines.
Even though North American Road Trips Gardeners can’t bring plants and seeds back across the pond, we can bring ideas. Check out the Autumn Border Gardens, the National Vegetable Championships (check out that beet, at right), and the Floral Art.
The Harrogate Flower Shows are organized by the North of England Horticultural Society. All profits from the shows are returned to the charity and used to promote gardening and horticulture in the North of England.
If you can’t make it to the Autumn Flower Show, consider scheduling a trip next year for the Spring Flower Show, set for April 25 through 28, 2019.
