Road Trips Gardeners in New York City tomorrow might want to consider attending this presentation in the Skyroom at the French Institute / Alliance Française, 22 East 60th Street, New York, New York.

The topic for the 7:30 p.m. presentation tomorrow (October 16, 2018) is one of the great landscapes of pre-Revolutionary France. The Domain of Méréville, created at the end of the 18th century is one of the biggest gardens in Europe.

Located in the Department of Essonne, 45 miles south of Paris, the park of Méréville is recognized as the most recent and successful example of a picturesque Anglo-Chinese garden. Essonne is restoring this historic site to its former glory, and the program aims to create awareness of this campaign.

François Durovray, President of Essonne, will introduce the project. Other speakers will include:

– David Pullins, Assistant Curator and Historian of XVIIth through the XIXth century art at the Frick Collection

– Meredith Martin, Associate Professor of Art History, Department of Art History, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University

– Gabriel Wick, landscape historian and author of the newly published book Méréville: the renaissance of a great landscape garden (Editions de la Falaise, 2018).

Following the program, Mr. Wick will sign copies of his book during a cocktail reception.
