Belgium’s Meise Botanic Garden
The new Island Garden at Meise Botanic Garden, located just outside of Brussels, was opened to the public September 21, 2022. Formed by a group of islands with various orientations and levels, the new garden creates a range of aquatic biotopes.
It was designed by artist-architects Gijs Van Vaerenbergh and landscape architect Atelier Arne Deruyter.
Botanical Garden Meise is an international center for botany and a favorite tourist destination. The history of the botanical garden dates back to 1797, making the Botanical Garden celebrate its 225th anniversary this year.
It manages one of the largest collections of living plants in Europe. These are not only an attraction for visitors from all over the world but are also a world-class scientific and horticultural tool. Scientists study the global diversity of plants, mushrooms, and algae, from Antarctica to the rainforests of Congo.
The history of Meise Botanic Garden goes back more than 200 years. It is one of the largest botanic gardens in the world: 92 hectares full of plants.
