One Writer's Garden: Eudora Welty's Home PlaceEudora Alice Welty was an American short story writer and novelist who wrote about the American South. (Her novel, The Optimist’s Daughter, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1973). Did you know she was also an accomplished gardener?

Taught by her mother, Chestina Welty, she cultivated a small backyard garden at her home in Jackson, Mississippi, and often used garden imagery in her work.

Susan Haltom, a garden designer and preservation coordinator of the Eudora Welty Garden, will discuss her new book, One Writer’s Garden: Eudora Welty’s Home Place, at an event in Hills & Dales Estate, 1916 Hills and Dales Drive, LaGrange, Georgia, October 5, 2017. A reception begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by a presentation at 7 p.m. (Needless to say, copies of the book will be sold — and signed.)

Cost is $10, and reservations are required.
