Feria de las Flores, Medellin, ColombiaHeaded to South America next month, Road Trips Gardeners? If Colombia is on your itinerary consider a stop in Medellin for La Feria de las Flores (Festival of Flowers). It runs from August 3 through 12, 2018.

The 10-day festival is an annual celebration of paisa culture (that’s the Medillin term for paisano or, roughly translated, peasant) and the anniversary of the independence of Antioquia. Medellin is the capital of this administrative region in northwest Colombia

Theme this year, the 61st annual festival, is “Medellín Florece” or “Medellín Blooms” in English. Don’t miss the Desfile de Silleteros is a parade where close to 500 paisas of all ages carry flower displays on their backs on wooden silletas.

There are more than 400 events, both public and private, throughout the city. Unfortunately for us gringos, the online schedule is only in Spanish.

For a better look at the festival, check out Medellin Guru‘s accounting of the event.
